Individual Counseling
Helping Individuals in Transition
How I Guide Individual Counseling
Working with individuals taught me that everybody needs a focus on feelings, as well as guidance on navigating their workplace and primary relationships. It is simply not enough to come to therapy to vent or talk about feelings. You desire a way out of your troubles. A seasoned professional who has been in your shoes but who has also mastered the situation can help.
We will practice new skills and approaches in the counseling session and in your homework between sessions. First, I will assist you in sorting through your thoughts, hopes, fears, and feelings about all the aspects of an issue. Some new clients have asked me, how is talking to a counselor different than getting advice from my friends? One main difference is that therapists generally do not give advice, but rather allow the client to examine their obstacles to achieving life goals. Another critical difference is that therapists and counselors are not invested in the outcome. I utilize a goal oriented approach in counseling and function as your advocate and coach in achieving your goals.
Psychotherapy
In some situations, I use a longer term psychotherapy approach which is not time limited. The focus for this type of psychotherapy is on the “here and now” interactions between the client and therapist during the session. My role is providing you a safe emotional container to explore and grow.
