Reignite Connection with a Simple, Evidence-Based Tool

Do you miss having meaningful conversations with your partner about what really matters?
Many couples feel stuck in surface-level exchanges and long for deeper connection.

What if a simple and enjoyable tool could help you both open up?
The Gottman Card Deck App—developed by the renowned Gottman Institute—is a free, research-based resource designed to strengthen your communication and emotional intimacy. Available for download on Apple and Google platforms, this app offers a variety of question decks covering topics like love maps, empathy, emotional needs, and physical intimacy.

How can this Card Deck help your relationship come alive again?
The goal is to keep the spark alive—by making meaningful conversation both accessible and fun.

Here are a few easy ways to use the app:

• After dinner at home:
Try the “Love Maps” deck to test how well you know each other’s likes, dreams, and preferences.

• During a date night:
Use the “Date Questions” deck to explore playful or thought-provoking topics while you wait for your meal.

• To express emotional needs:
Practice saying things like, “I need you to ask about my day at work.

• For deeper emotional intimacy:
The “Great Listening” deck includes three powerful prompts:
What are you feeling about our relationship?
What are your primary needs?
What do you truly wish for?

Best Practice for the 3 Listening Questions :

Give each partner 10 minutes to answer without interruption. Then switch roles.

You can download The Gottman Card Deck App for FREE from your apps source on your smartphone.

The Gottman card deck app has 14 decks of cards with more than 1,000 flashcards to help couples improve their relationship. There are many themes in the decks, such as communication, conflict resolution, intimacy and adventure. The cards can be used to start a conversation, give guidance for reflection or ideas about activities you’re going to do together. To make it easier for couples to keep a record of their progress and save some favorite cards, the app also has an timer and favorites feature.

As a couples therapist, I often guide clients through these kinds of conversations in session—and then encourage them to continue the practice at home. It’s a simple habit that can make a real difference.
